Out and about
Beaches
The surrounding area offers many beautiful places to visit including a huge choice of beaches, from long sandy or pebbly stretches to sandy coves with rock pools that appear at low tide. There are numerous fabulous countryside and coastal walks including the famous South West Coastal path. Much of the countryside and coastline is protected and therefore unspoilt and well maintained with many offering a range of facilities – parking (not generally free), cafes, shops, water sports, etc.
Pubs, Restaurants and Markets
In the surrounding villages there are pubs, restaurants and farm shops and the market town of Kingsbridge, less than ten minutes by car from Stancombe, offers a great selection of interesting shops, cafes, galleries, two supermarkets and a petrol station. The Crabshell Inn, situated on the quay is a favourite of ours and is popular with local and visitors – great to be able to sit outside by the water and enjoy pizzas, freshly made on the premises or you can dine in the restaurant on the upper level or takeaway! Kingsbridge has several weekly markets, including a very good farmers’ market every 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month; craft, antique/collector’s markets are also held on a regular basis in the old town hall building on the high street.
